JC Albyn Complex

the complex

Following the breakup of Third Rail in October 2000 Adam and James decided to form a new band. They had a few practices and wrote some new songs and named themselves after an industrial complex near Yellow Arch Studios where they were practicing. In January 2001 Ralf joined on bass and Johnnie joined to play synth and guitar. It soon became apparent that the synth wasn't working so it was dropped. They practiced and wrote songs, then after one gig at the Grapes on July 5th 2001 they split up.

jc albyn complex comedy photo.... However that is not the end of the story, because in september 2001 adam, james and johnnie decided to record the songs as a way of documenting the band. While recording the backing tracks for the "disconnected" e.p. on the sPookY sounds B16 at Yellow Arch they were asked to play one of the first gigs at Barfly Sheffield (at the National Centre for Popular Music) on 2nd October 2001. Additional instruments were added at sPookY sounds. They played again at the Grapes on 15th November 2001, and then in December the boys took a break, which sadly stretched until April 2002.

Later that summer they asked Craig from Betty's Clinic to join on bass to make them a four piece again. This made the boys get a move on with their recording and they finished their e.p. "disconnected" before their first practice with him. This e.p. features 5 original tracks.

During the "disconnected" sessions they recorded a rocky version of "my head" for an ELEVATOR tribute album.

Then as a four piece they practiced, wrote and recorded new songs. The drums and guide guitar were recorded on a cassette 4-track in a practice room at Yellow Arch and more of the noise that makes up their five song e.p. "The Attic Tapes" was recorded on the sPookY sounds B16 in august and september of 2002.

At the end of september 2002 they started work on their first full-length album, but sadly Craig left to go to work on a boat and so JC Albyn Complex became a three-piece again. In typical JC Albyn Complex style they did nothing (including practicing) as a band for a year.

In the meantime, Adam began a solo project called Yell And The Nolls and with the help of two "session musicians" he recorded an eight song mini-album in three days spread out over about six months at sPookY sounds.

Eventually jc albyn complex decided to try again, so they dumped the old tracks and recorded the beginnings of some more songs in 2004. Overdubs followed for a while, but as usual those recordings were left unfinished and practices dried up again.
Over a year later and despite the return of Craig they had done nothing other than talking about having a practice at some point until all of a sudden in summer 2006 Dave joined on guitar and the 5 piece jcac started practicing regularly. This resulted in them starting work on another new recording - the album "The Resurrection of JCAC" over Easter 2007. 15 songs have been recorded and will hopefully be finished soon....

BUT, while that is still waiting to be finished the recordings started in 2004 have been completed as an album called "the lost tape."
